John
16 months after 1st cough
8 months after diagnosis of cancer
3 months after 1st round of chemo
It is a known fact that people with cancer need to stay healthy. Staying healthy means they can continue treatment. Staying healthy makes people happier and better able to cope. In the case of most cancer patients, staying healthy starts with keeping their weight up.
The challenge of keeping weight on while undergoing chemotherapy is twofold. First, both the cancer and the drugs used to treat cancer operate to increase metabolism. Second, throwing poison into your system decreases appetite and, in some cases, can cause injury that inhibits the ability to eat and keep food down. We cannot cure the cancer. However, we can give you coping strategies for staying healthy, including ways to help you eat more and retain more nutrients. If you can do that, you are a much better candidate for treatment and you increase your ability to withstand the toxic effects.
